Friedrich Nietzsche described himself as someone who philosophized with a hammer. This speaks volumes about his personality. He pushed the hottest button at the time: Christianity and its institutions.
Europe had seen Protestants and Catholics slaughter each other. To critique Christianity was the equivalent of defending paedophilia in today's society—perhaps a bit exaggerated, but illustrates the point. It took courage to address such a controversial issue, and a dangerous man by the name of Nietzsche did just that. He had courage!
Some of his quotes on women:
From the beginning, nothing has been more alien, repugnant, and hostile to woman than truth—her great art is the lie, her highest concern is mere appearance and beauty.
Woman! One-half of mankind is weak, typically sick, changeable, inconstant... she needs a religion of weakness that glorifies being weak, loving, and being humble as divine.
Women can enter into a friendship with a man perfectly well, but to maintain it, a little physical antipathy is required.
