I've mused a lot about this. And I came to the conclusion that people, especially women, mostly only virtue signal when they have no skin in the game really.

Either because they're shielded from the consequences of their virtue signaling (examples: rich people who live in fancy close-gated communities virtue signaling about mass immigration or about the police being racist for being violent with black thugs, etc; or people who don't really work or pay that much taxes advocating from government programs who will be paid with the money of other people who pay taxes) or because they do have some skin in the game, but they must not give up something they really care.
