How is sitting here going to help him? If any it's going to thrust him even further into depression, if that's even possible. I pity the guy, but the truth is most of people are not salvageable. To quote the book that I'm reading right now:
"Suicide troubles and appalls us because it so intransigently rejects our deeply held conviction that life must be worth living."
