Most arranged marriages work because the woman has no choice. The only way to overcome hypergamy is to make it socially, economically and legally impossible for a woman to be hypergamous.

Arranged marriages are norm in conservative society where "divorce" (a.k.a. breaking up a family) and "women living alone" (a.k.a. whoredom) is considered as depravity.
Some people might argue that attraction does not work in arranged marriage. Which is not true either. Initial attraction (honeymoon phase) wears out (or transforms into a more "settled form" of attraction) in all marriages.
