Not always. Foids in customer service positions will sometimes say hi to people in line ahead of me but won't say anything to me besides how much I owe.

This, but I remember the first and only time this happened to me in high school my heart was racing. It was the first time in my life a girl recognized I existed even if she wasn't attracted to me.

This. I’ve also hugged girls but tbh hugs don’t mean much. If a girl likes you platonically or as an acquaintance then she’ll probably be okay with hugging you. Even then I’m not sure if I can recall a girl initiating a hug.
