Jrpg does not mean a linear RPG with turn based combat. Jrpg means RPG made in Japan. Jrpgs could be anything from Final Fantasy, to Monster Hunter, to Dark Souls and Etrian Odyssey.


This attempt to push expedition 33 as a jrpg is cringe and an obvious psyop intended to place pressure on Japanese developers to be less Japanese.

The first jrpgs had combat that were inspired by western rpg video games which were in turn inspired by dungeons and dragons. Yet they're still considered jrpgs. By the logic they're using with this game, every jrpg with simple turn based combat would be a wester RPG.
