Jake Paul is a for fighting Mike Tyson. He's not man enough to fight someone his own age. Their names shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath.
October 2nd in 1980, Ali fights Larry Holmes.
Larry Holmes slapped Muhammad Ali during the build-up to their 1980 fight. It was a surprising and controversial moment, considering Holmes's usual respectful demeanour toward Ali. Any slap is universally seen as a sign of disrespect, and in the intense, macho world of boxing, especially in the 1980s, it would have been even more humiliating. The physicality and pride of fighters during that era made such a gesture incredibly loaded with meaning. To slap someone, especially a legend like Ali, was a public assertion of dominance, and it sent a clear message that you were willing to degrade your opponent in front of others.
Ali smiled and played it off, saying; "You slapped me!"
It was a stark contrast to how a younger, healthier Ali might have reacted. At his peak, Ali likely would have retaliated with a slap at the very least, considering he quickly put Joe Frazier in a headlock during one of their confrontations during his prime. But by 1980, Ali's physical and mental health were in decline, and his ability to engage in such theatrics had diminished.
He was showing early signs of Parkinson's syndrome, though it had not been formally diagnosed at the time. He had also taken a diuretic drug, Thyrolar, which left him severely dehydrated and further weakened his already fragile condition.
A certain 14 year old and his mentor in Catskill watched Larry Holmes beat the legend in a one-side fight, forcing Angelo Dundee, Ali’s trainer, to throw in the towel. Muhammed Ali lot by technical knock-out for the first time in his career.
Cus D'Amato after talking to Muhammed Ali who lost the championship fight to the reigning Holmes handed the phone to Tyson, saying;
Although Mike Tyson was distraught and couldn't speak well through his breakdown and lisp, he promised Muhammed Ali over the phone:
January 22nd in 1988, Larry Holmes comes out of retirement to fight 23 year old Mike Tyson, the most feared fighter in the modern era and undisputed heavyweight champion of the world at the time. KARMA.
"I want you to destroy him. I want you to get him for me." Muhammed Ali's words to Tyson right before the match.
Mike Tyson became the first man to ever knockout Larry Holmes, both times in by the forth round and the latter being the finishing blow.
Larry Holmes says Mike Tyson was the hardest fight he ever had in his career.
