Yes, yes I know that this is a very generic statement which is mainly uttered by edgy, overly-emotional normies who just want to imagine themselves as an equally insufferable normie who would have been involved in some "counter culture" at the time such as Hippies, Metalheads, tradcons, whatever.
However, genuinely, the meme does have a point.
When I was a kid, I used to use my imagination a lot -makes sense as an only child with autism- where I would often imagine myself as some kind of pirate explorer, cowboy pioneering out West, or even as some astronaut charting a new planet. What do these all have in common? Well, it appeals to the alleged indomitable human & faustian spirit, which essentially relates to the basic biological function of seeking to explore, discover, and just generally actually be active & do something.
Instead, we were born too late to be some explorer charting a new coastline, too early to be some star sailor, charting a new star system & maybe discovering some crazy fauna or flora
Instead, I'm stuck with my unnatural existence, rotting online, engaging in various menial copes to pass my meaningless existence.
