Metal music is just more relateble than pop music. Whereas pop music conveys and explores positive emotions and themes like love and hapiness, metal music explores negative subjects - pain, suffering, death, war etc., also its heavy sound and fast tempo conveys the feelings of anger, frustration, and rebellious attitude. If I had to apply aesthetic principles, I would say that metal music is mimetic form of music, in contrast to pop music, which idealizes and romanticise life.
