I've noticed that too. I went vacationing in Germany and stayed with a family of Ukrainian refugees I knew instead of booking a hotel, and every single Ukrainian person and family I have ever interacted with only spoke Russian.

Today's Ukrainians and Belarusians are Russians.
It's just that one part of Russian lands were under Mongol rule, while the other under Lithuanian rule.
Also some Western Russian principalities were incorporated into Poland.

Suicide rates once were highest in the world and still remain high.
Prices are high while wages are low by Western Europe standards.
When I was in Berlin I visited a few supermarkets ( not a cheap Lidl ) and prices everywhere were lower than in Lithuania!
So a socio-economic situation is hard. At least in Poland, Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Moldova etc. there is corruption and low wages but prices are also comparatively low while in the Baltic states wages are low but prices are very high!
Many people live in total hopelessness.
It's only good in that sense that you at least have more personal freedoms and less state control than our Eastern neighbors.
