I didn't know about this guy. Looked up his bio on wikipedia. He's absolutely fascinating, and reminds me of Evariste Galois, another genius mathematician who died way too young. Galois died over a foid, though - he fell in love with a foid that was being groomed to marry into nobility, so Galois challenged the noble to a duel and got shot to death. Such a waste. It looks like Ramanujan left the world due to amoeba infection, which absolutely sucks.
It's likely the case that I haven't heard of Ramanujan because people hate curries so much. I'm familiar with a basket of white mathematicians, but enlightenment europeans didn't really care about giving credit to eastern scholars who did so much foundational work. That legacy seems to have lived on.
