It's long, it's hard and requires a lot of effort to push through. It takes so long to take meaningful results. Especially, for getting lean if that was a goal. But also, it's just sort of boring. Same exercises, same shit. It's tedious and dull, sometimes. I can only bench 125, or around 62.5kg. That's after like 5 months. I started at I think, 45-50lbs? Not sure. For any gymcels, how long did it take you to actually hit a consistent 200lb or 90kg bench press?

Push for a heavy 5 rep max each time, if you fail fight to get 5 reps again, try again until you can get the 5 reps with that, if you do, add a little more weight, and drink lots of milk.

I envy the people who actually enjoy working out, intrinsically. I know one normie who started running after middle school simply because he liked it. Whenever I try to work out or run, I only last a few weeks before I stop. I have to force myself the entire time, because I absolutely despise it.

Milk is so goated. I love it. Anyway, that's more of a powerlifter, right? I try to go to failure on higher reps. Correct if I am wrong man, but isn't the failure the most important part?

Same here man. It's just not enjoyable for me.

Depends.

Apparently, not going to failure is best for strength gains, that's what some papers say.

But I mostly take it to failure, I bench with no collars on the barbell and if I can't push it up, I just dump the weight plates each side. Still sort of risky though. Probably bench in the rack if you can.

Taking it to failure is good for muscle growth. You'll need the muscle anyway because a bigger muscle is a stronger muscle or has more potential for strength transfer.

Same. I do keep the collars on. May I ask how long did it take you to hit a 200lb bp? I think I might have to lower my expectations this year, because that's a hefty number for me to want to hit, I'm only at 125.

Big diff betwren 200lb and 100kg

Pretty miserable as usual, how are you?
That sucks man. If you wanna talk about it, or just vent, let me know. I'm doing worse, sadly :( My parents are in a tight situation where one is a complete and utter alcoholic and the other, is somewhat narcissistic.

I can't remember exactly, it's been a while.

Just keep doing heavy sets of 5s, I think when you get 175lb to 185lb for 5 reps, I think you'll be able to hit 200lb for 1.

Doing heavy sets of 5s is a good mix for muscle and strength gains.

200lb as in 90kg'ish, not 100kg/220lb.

I might switch to it sometime soon, then. It's not like my progress right now is BAD, it's just not as fast as I want it to be.

i started around 63kg(bodyweight), benching 60kg/135lbs

when i hit 100kg i weighted around 74kg
That's pretty impressive man! Good work! I'm surprised some people can naturally bench over 100lbs for their first time.

Oh, my bad lol. Pretend it said 90kg or something
OKe but it took me way way longer then it will for you.
Like 2 and a half years
I started at 30kg bench
Did so much wrong for like 2 years so progress was really slow.

I think you can get it this year

Thank you for this man! :feelsaww: I hope I can! I've been trying to get variety into my diet as-well! What did you do wrong, if I may ask?

I don't blame you, Choler. I hope you had fun while you were in there though man

yh i had fun tbh, i enjoyed going there, taking pre, listening to hardstyle, it was fun

but rn i cant take this shit anymore, its boring, repetitive and it has no purpose to be honest

I need to work out somehow.

I need a "full-body workout", pretty much! Because I have mild scoliosis and I think my inactivity is making symptoms way worse.

But I dunno what to do! :feelscry:

most of it i would just train too much, and my recovery was also pretty bad

like too many sets, dropsets, partials. for no reason
not enough restdays, i thought going 6 days was good but yh for me (and most people) thats way too much
my diet was oke on most days, my sleep was not that good aswell.

Maybe you can find a sport that is more enjoyable to you? Even though I, as I said, hate exercise, in the past I used to ride MTB and do Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu without having to force myself as much as I do when I try to run or do calisthenics. Maybe lifting is too braindead for you, but you could find a better alternative.

The benchpress is one of my weakest exercises. Barely able to press my own bodyweight for 1 rep.
But for some odd reason, I can do dips with a lot weight even though the same muscles are involved.
