My mother had a friend who had a daughter my age. They lived in a completely different city and region. About 20 years ago, they used to visit the area where I lived, as they had family here. My mother and I would visit them as well, and I would play with her daughter. One time, jokingly, I said I loved her. She rejected me, but my confession wasn’t entirely genuine—it was more of a joke.
