I have been scared of using the bench press cause I have no one to spot me and I am afraid of being crushed to death. I used it for the first time yesterday and I used 25kg of weights (idk how much the bar weighs by itself), did 4 sets of 8 repetition and found it very hard.

25kg a side or in total?

Damn, even I can lift more sets and reps of 25 kg than you JFL

Does the bar alone not already weigh like 20kg?

Every gym bar weighs 20kg, so you benched 45 kg. Also if you are scared of benching then bench inside a rack, you can fail safely. When I first started gymming I also benched around 40-45kg with the same reps and sets.

That's awesome, you can try finding a machine version of chest press to increase weight and lift to failure without the risk of dropping the weights, you should also increase your bench by doing pushups or weighted pushups because they are easier to control, if you can't already do many.

Personally when I started lifting I never did bench press, I stuck with a sitting machine press that was much easier to balance and could not injure you so it was fun and easy to use and you will gain strength quick if you do things right as a beginner, but eventually I switched to just regular bench and you eventually should too because you need to learn how to stabilize what you are holding if you plan on muscles being not just for show

Anyways

Don't put him down please!

smith machine- easy to rack if you need to, no spotter needed

Lifting 45kg for 8 reps as his first time benching is actually a very good sign and is not weak, so if he's claiming he is weak and isn't lying then i assume the bar is less. The bars I personally use don't really weigh anything, some bars are made with only a couple pounds of weight somehow.

I'm not saying it's bad. For an untrained person 45kg is good. There are some people that are even struggling to bench the bar itself. Bench press is one of the hardest lifts to get good at, especially if you are a framecel and have long limbs.

The bar is pretty heavy, wouldn’t be surprised if it’s 20kg

Did u use red plates?

55 + 55 + 45 = 155

If you just started weightlifting, then benching 45 kg is normal.
I started a couple months ago, I just did bench press for the first time

It gets easier, your muscle are not prepared that's why starting is always hard

if you fail a rep you can just do the roll of shame

You can’t really fail a rep though cause you have to lift it back up and put it in the thingo

Hamza's a curry and he's strong. No excuses.
:feelsUgh:

I‘m too weak for gymcelling too. Plus I have a tiny frame so it’s worthless anyways.

25 kg first time is really good by curry standards. Every new guy I see in my gym starts empty bar or 5 kg tops.

My first time bench was 5 kg. I am on supplement and I can bench 30kg for 3-4 reps rn at 54 kg.

My highest was 50kg for 2 when I was 60 kg

The fuck is this normie BS discussion.

I’m a curry too.
I started lifting and can now do 20kg dumbbells.
Took me 6 months or so to get here.
Also I’m abusing turkesterone and geo2max supplements.
I should add I take creative and protein powder as well
