"The trial has heard that Atay had a drink problem and would regularly down bottles of wine at home.
Prosecutor John Elvidge QC said that on the night of the attack Atay’s “craving for alcohol” led her to try and leave the matrimonial home.
He said: “There was a confrontation but not a grave one until she chose to pick up a knife and use it against her unarmed husband, deliberately and unlawfully stabbing him more than once, delivering a fatal wound that penetrated into his heart and caused his death.”
Mr Elvidge added that when she was quizzed by detectives she said her husband had “subjected her to years of verbal and physical aggression and abuse, had sought to control and degrade her, and attempted to police her drinking.”
Basically she killed her husband because she was an alcoholic and he tried to help her by stopping her drinking and is now trying to play the victim, throw away the key.
