Of course, multiple genres like hip hop, R&B, and jazz are undoubtedly black music, but I've seen the claim made numerous times that even genres like rock and country owe their existence in part to the influence of blues (a black genre). If this theory is true, it means that even stuff like NSBM ultimately owes its existence at least in part to black people.

Unlike other claims that *x thing* was invented by *x ethnics*, I've never seen anyone take a useful critical look at this claim. My assumption is that it's likely true to a degree, but exaggerated. I can imagine things like rock music would have come about anyway without the influence of blues, but would differ notably both sonically and in their cultural context compared to the genres we know today

Most modern western pop music is rooted in Jazz and the Delta Blues primarily

In my opinion it's more accurate to say that Black people are responsible for much of the foundation of modern music. Claiming they invented all of it seems a bit reductive.

Well yeah, pop is obviously black-influenced to a heavy degree. I think rock possibly would have still come about without black influence though, it just wouldn't be the exact same as the genre we know today

“Invented” is a strong word. Influenced is better, they haven’t invented anything past classic rock and roll when it comes to guitars (and there is an argument to be made that people have been using string instruments in tandem with percussion since forever). Rap was influenced by electronic who had its start in West Germany with Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream and the like.

The versions of rock created by Whites like Elvis and the Beatles were also more influential than the original black artists.

Classical also has an influence on modern music, albeit probably not as pronounced as that of blues

Quite yes right ,I'n some way .Like the Techno pop popular in European night clubs is sort of a pop without a blues root

Rock as we know it today would not exist without the old timer music in America, this was a white genre. The old timer music influence was introduced to the at the time black "rock" music due to southern white youth finding it interesting and decided to play their own style, adding in influences from old timer music because that was what they knew off form before. Rock music also owes alot to the invention of the electric guitar a white invention. i would say rock is more a example of souther american music rather than black music and a great example of what can be createt when we look past race and just create.

This. They did influence a lot of music genres, but they did not invent them. Techno and House for example got invented by a bunch of white people. But then again, music is just music so who the fuck cares what race the person who invented it was. If you like it then you listen to it. Otherwise enjoy another cope.

Obviously it would not be fair to claim that Europeans invented modern music because they were the first to write down formal notes, they are not responsible for everything that came after them. This equally applies to the blacks, Chinese and Jeets.

Pop music? Maybe. Modern pop music builds upon blues in no small part. But niggers didn't "invent" it, rather their musical culture inspired/influenced modern pop music for what it's worth.

Tbh having listened to a certain amount of classical music I wouldn't say it had that much of an influence on modern music. Of course what came before influences what comes after, some melodies were borrowed, also modern harmony extends the late romantic harmony (or rather, they share the foundation), and whatnot. It is nowhere near the influence that blues had

White people took jungle bunny music and made it listenable.

Nigga I literally like ghetto black music. I mean shit that even negrified zoomers call "too ghetto." I made this thread because I've never seen anyone take a critical look at this claim, unlike for other claims about blacks or browns inventing things which turned out to be untrue. I simply wanted to gauge the merit of this statement
