We can say the same for many african countries that are capitalistic. In the cold war socialism was always less popular than capitalism, making USSR lose in mostly all the wars.
Also just because USSR failed doesn't mean socialism is bad: a country can have a bad economy for many factors: geopolitical pressure, bad managment of the goverment, limited resources...

In my opinion saying that socialism doesn't work just because the USSR or other countries failed is not a valid reasoning for the reasons I've said.
