I'm sure you've heard it a thousand times from a thousand different people; race war, revolution, apocalypse. Virtually every 'radical' ideology has their idea of an unprecedented paradigm shift effecting the entirety of humanity sometime in the near future. The modern world is changing at an unfathomable rate and everything that holds us together - everything that separates humans from apes - seems to be in a state of rapid decay.

Is anything of the sort likely? If you believe that a collapse is imminent, how and when?

Things have been heating up a bit, but not enough to actually tip it to that point. Any collapse or major war will be quite a decade far off in the very least. Most places are "stable" to some degree still, even if the masses suffer even more. To reach the breaking point we need things to get far worse faster, this usually has to start with some economic collapse.

Pretty realistic, especially if the demographic being targeted is a large demographic. The common trope nowadays is to ostracize and demonize a large majority of the population (white people and especially men). If this persists, that demographic will eventually get sick of this shit and go full French Revolution on the streets, especially since the job market has been poor for over a decade and lots of men are single. When you demonize a whole demographic like this, you will have plenty of people who literally have nothing to live for, hence why we have way more mass shooters than there was back then, even though back before laws on automatic weapons were passed, you were literally able to mail order machine guns for the price of an AR-15 today adjusted for inflation.

Even if it's happening humans can barely curtail it. Leftists are using it as a tool to gain power. They are over exaggerating the immediate effects. There are possibilities that we could experience global cooling let alone global warming. A large percentage of earths population lives next to coastal areas and this will cause with displacement. Many people will starve to death or die of disease. It's mother nature at work.

I don't think an apocalyptic economic collapse will happen.

Most likely it's going to be a soft transition towards a socialist/communist regime in which climate change is used as an excuse to increase taxes and hurt industry.

Poverty will increase though because tax money is actually used to encourage poverty instead of solving it.

It looks bad, but we are probably not anywhere close to the kind of upheaval that brought down the Roman Empire. We have much better technology and infrastructure now too.

Back in around 2005 there was a lot of talk of Peak Oil being an imminent threat that would collapse society in a matter of years. I got really wrapped up in it, and it just didn't happen.

As much as I want it to, society probably is not going to come unwravelled like we see in the movies. My best guess is the next 10-20 years will continue to be an awful lot like it is today. Shit will continue on.
