I make $50,000, live alone in a 2,500 sqft house, live a minimalist lifestyle, have the heat set low, and don’t buy something unless it’s a necessity and I need it. Alcohol is an exception which is maybe $20 a week.

Why the fuck would you live in a city? A place of 50k or so usually has plenty of shopping, resturants and even public transit where I live has just barely over 30k and all aforementioned shit. My only complaint would be the lack of a greek resturant could use some souvlaki. here where I live we got a lot of entitled ridiculous fucks who think that $120k a year income is poverty in the sf bay area.
im like nigga, there are plenty of places that rent for $2100 to $2400 a month. even below that in the borderline ghetto areas or if you can find an in-law or small studio.
to live comfortably in the sf bay area, i'd say at least around 76k a year as a single person. sure, your friggin spending like 28k+ a year on rent but you should have some saved up by the end of the year even if its not a whole lot (if you live cheaply and are not an overly materialistic person).
Anything below 76k (even 60k for example), after rent, you're essentially pinching pennies and really conscious about how high the prices are for certain items. you're even careful to order something from amazon (that you really want). because they all add up if you do your own accounting. its the difference between saving 3k to 6k+ a year or not. And of course, having extra savings by the end of the year's time, keeps you sane and not feel like a hopeless helpless slave.
so with that said, anywhere else outside of california away from the major cities, i suspect 38k to 45k a year is just fine (again, if you're not too materialistic).
as for blacks and latinos, a lot of those folks live below the poverty line, latinos, even lower incomes than blacks I believe and blacks are already poor as fuck.
having a partner is essential to live a better life (not just in terms of sex, romance, meaning, and companionship, but also finance)

You can't just say "Average city" The US is fucking huge. In Rural parts of Kansas you could probably get by on $35k but you'd definently need to do more research as that is just an estimate.
