Discussion How many of you would buy a robot companion?

It would help, both in feeling lonely, depressed, and wanting intimacy and sex. But i doubt it would help with any more.
Current tech doesn't allow our sexbots to do dishes, clean the house etc.

I would buy a doll now, because sexbots are still in the uncanny valley. I hope they improve this decade

I tend to agree. But just having a being to take the edge off the loneliness... Man.

I hear ya. Better a realistic doll than an awkward bot. I regret not being born when these things are almost immediately indistinguishable from humans.

Depends on the cost, and I don't need it to be realistic: uncanny valley is totally a thing.

I would buy one in a heartbeat if it was affordable.

Better than nothing

One thing is since so many women are so low IQ, surpassing women in conversation ability isn't as hard as people think. A robot woman you could have interesting conversations with would be a big selling point, like for men not able to have companionship because women are excluding them based on discrimination.

Its like with driverless cars. Back in 2005 I predicted that by 2030 driverless cars would become possible. And by 2035 it would be priced affordable so people buying a new car could buy a driverless car.

People back in 2005 thought I was completely insane. Engineers told me AI will never get to that level, they said AI is always something that is '20 year away'. My argument was that humans are able to drive. And from Kurzweil's book the Age of Spiritual Machines which I read in 2001, the computer power increases exponentially. So eventually the computers can match the human brain in computing power(and then go exponentially beyond that in the years after that).

Now it looks like my prediction might even turn out to be conservative. The Tesla cars can already drive by themselves on some roads.

I would buy this if I could customize the waifu to my liking (and if the AI was more advanced)

I'm going to try and save up at least a quarter of my weekly salary for the next decade and hopefully buy one that's if they are in high demand by then

They are right, AI doesn't exist by now and with high probability never will. Chat bot and "self-driving" cars aren't an AI, it's just a label for better sales.

I would, imagine sex dolls with Bladerunner 2049 Joi technology

They still look uncanny valley and that's a real deal breaker for me. Besides, I want some intimacy and companionship. I would much prefer a holographic waifu like Joi from the new Bladerunner.

I’m not sure if I’d want to, but either way I’m broke.

I would if she looked young and Innocent enough.

Yes. Its a better choice than a fat sub 6 foid. In fact, I'm saving up money for the most expensive model. I will have one made to match Isabella.
