@Doug I do not like Ibanez guitars (the two I've played I found to be incredibly rough to play, namel with the body shape and neck shape), but they are liked by many. If you're looking for something specific, I'd sooner recommend a PRS SE model, a higher end Epiphone, or a mid level Schecter, depending on your musical interests. Many worship low end Mexican fender guitars as well, but I have had a negative experience with them as well.To add on from that, I recommend a cheap Ibanez as those are the easiest to shred on from my experience.
One was an RG, I don't remember the other (it was higher end). They both had these pencil-thin unfinished necks that had no depth. There was nowhere to rest my palm. It almost felt like playing a piano sideways if that makes sense. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of the 50's Gibson baseball bat neck either... there is a happy medium and Ibanez necks always stray too thin IMO.What Ibanez models were they?
If they were RG then I understand. He should go for the S series as they have thinner necks.
