I saw a homeless guy begging at a street corner today. He was a 0/10 subhuman, probably in his late 30s or mid 40s, dressed in rags and sporting the classic Brazilian flipflops which probably smelled of decay and despair.

I immediately wondered what force drives this man to continue to live like this. Why hasn't he killed himself yet? I believe the answer is hope. Hope makes you forget the present, it forces you to focus on a distant future where all your problems are no more. You trick yourself into believing that tomorrow will be better.

I think many of us, including normans, are being sustained by hope. After all, the lesser men have nothing but hope. I think I will choose the rope over the hope.

It's not hope, it's fear. Most fear death, some only fear agony, but agony is there for both. Human body is unbelievably durable, even if it's 1/10. Although, some people use hope to escape from fear of agony or death, there's also that.

Yeah, it's not hope but more likely fear of going to Hell.

Not everyone is a believer. And among believers, not everyone believes in your particular brand of supernatural. Yet, fear is commonplace. Therefore, I assume they are afraid of agony and death, and just mask it with fear of afterlife.

Your post has a fair point in it. Hope ensnares our minds, preventing us from raw, rational thinking. Why shoud you hope, when future was obviously never meant to be good?

Drugs alcohol and people buying you tasty sandwichs.

Hope is cope.
