They're basically the same, whores. But hookers seems to have a more low quality, ghetto-ish connotation to me. So it's probably referred to the ones we see on the streets and/or have simps and stuff. Escorts, usually are like "deluxe" hookers.
It really depends, you can call them to your house (less recommendable tho), call them to a hotel/motel or they can have their own place where.
About a £150 difference in price, both are exactly the same though. Plain whores who fuck fat, dirty, old, truecel men for money.

I think its moreso men trick themselves into thinking they aren't the dirty perverts associated with kerb crawling for prostitutes in their cars. For pimps it allows them an excuse to demand a higher fee, but trust me I've seen more presentable street walkers.
Also prostitutes working from behind closed doors makes it harder for cops to intervene, or easier for cops to look the other way. Most "clamping down on female exploitation" comes from peer pressure from feminist campaigner groups.
