Hitler simply needed not to declare war on the United States, not to attack Stalingrad, but to sit on the defensive. At the end of 1942, Stalin was close to giving the Germans all of Ukraine, Belarus, and the Baltic states in exchange for an armistice.

Is it even possible to be a "country of machines", while 20% of your population who are young and healthy are dying at war and the only workers are women and children? When the war began, my great-grandmother was 15 y.o. and 4 years she worked for 12 hours per day at machinery for a 1 piece of bread.
