My father survived Auschwitz. He is 96 years old now. He lost his parents, his older brother, and one of his sisters. She asked if she could go with her 3 daughters, so she was sent with them to die. They were ages 5, 3 and 1 year old. My father was sent to the side to die. He was sent to the left. The people who were sent to the left were killed. To this day, he still jokes, never go to the left. Always go right. He was with his best friend and told him that we need to climb out of the high window. His best friend said no, but my father made him climb out with him, and they snuck over to the other building. That was one of the reasons he survived.
