Sending an sos to all the high iq foumites out there. I have an old laptop with windows 7 on it. I installed software on it a few years ago that is no longer available for download.
So I to extract the programm from my old laptop and save it on a usb disk or something. Just the thing is that I am a broke bum and cant afford the professional extraction software. Thats why I am looking for help.

Maybe create a system image of the entire hard drive using the Windows 7 built in tools.

https://www.nextofwindows.com/how-t...rive-in-windows-7-using-create-a-system-image

Have you searched for the original download install file? Was it a .msi or .zip file?

That's all I can suggest I don't know much about Windows.
I think I understand what you envision here. Ahmm 1) create a system image and then 2) allocate a partition for it on my current laptop and at least at the bare minimum I can access the programms I want to use.

Original download files have bben removed and instead we are left with this new cloud software nonsence where I have give all my personal info just to create a stupid account.

I'm curious as to what this software is!

It's so rare for a piece of software to not be available ANYWHERE online.

Maybe for very niche software, especially if you also want a very specific version.

Install a distribution of GNU/Linux or BSD and be done with your Microsoft shenanigans.
"But muh games" Play Tuxkart and begone.
It's free, doesn't spy on you, runs on worst hardware and soon will be a real gaming platform with Steam and it's Proton software. It already is tbh, a lot of games run fine on Linux.
If you need a specific software (really ? you don't) launch a virtual machine or use Wine.
I know I'm preaching, I don't give a fuck. Fuck Bill Gates, fuck Linus Thorvald also. ALL WILL BOW BEFORE RICHARD STALLMAN. :feelsLSD::feelsLSD::feelsLSD:

I need it for University. Instead of making normal mp4 videos the idiot profs want to be fancy and use powerpoint presentation and all kinds of nonsence for which you need to download and register a ton of things just to use.

Instead of using some cheap screen capture software.

Then I also specific got specific versions of screen recording/capture software that I want because the profs are such selfish devils that they refuse to record their lectures(everything is online at the moment because of the corona hoax )

Yes, it's not ideal but might be a workable compromise.

If the HDD has no room for a separate partition maybe look at running W7 from a USB and restore the image to there. Or create a virtual machine using VirtualBox or MS has a smiliar product I think and restore the image to the VM.

I too am now fed up of using microsoft junk. I turned off windows updates and they so rude that they force turn it back on, can you imagine the audacity. Then they install all this rubbish weather report and microsoft edge which I cant even uninstall.

I am really sick and tired of using microsoft and am saving for a new laptop which will be completely windows free.

I agree unironically. There are free/open applications which can create and export files in the closed powerpoint format. In my experience at least, professors couldn't fucking tell the difference between a .docx or a .odt document file.

I think I will do just that. First backup my current hard drive as it is right now and then partition some space on which I will install Linux.

Anybody here know some tutorial website for total beginners in Linux? One with little or no technical jargon at least for now untill I am used to Linux

I trust others in this thread can point you to some good resources but the key thing to know is that, whenever possible, always install software from your distro's repository (app store in normie speak). Downloading things all willy nilly from the web the Windows way will net you programs that don't install or play nicely with your system. It's not better or worse, just a different way of thinking about and using a system.

First you have to decide which distro you want to use.

https://distrowatch.com/

Maybe pick one of the top five from the ranking column. Pop!_OS has gaming support and is meant to be easy to setup and use, without any need to use the command line.

https://pop.system76.com/

I don't know of any good tutorials for new users but with Pop!_OS you should be good to go.

Why don't you create a new thread asking which Linux distro to select and tutorials. I think a lot of members here are Linux users.

I only use Red Hat Enterprise Linux and some embedded UNIX and refer to man pages which may be a bit difficult for a beginner.

Just in case you do want an intro to command line and scripting than I learnt from this book. It's dated but still relevant and written by the men who worked at AT&T Bell Labs.
