Lol, light brown is the plainest hair color in the world, I don't think it should be number 1.
When I was younger, I had light brown hair and I always hoped it will turn darker because light brown hair looked like shit. Luckily my hair is now a darker brown. I am still of the opinion that light hair for men is not ideal.

Honestly I think Dark Brown/Black are interchangeable. They both can contrast your facial features well. The thing is the most desirable traits ie.. facial features are those of Western Europe who happen to have a higher chance of being Brown. Having a certain color doesn't necessarily make or break your face but it can certainly help bring it out.
In regards to hair textures: Slight wavy is best. If you go to a hair stylist the first thing they will do is try and give you layers and volume for people with straight/flat hair texture.
