Guys, can you help me select a gaming laptop?

I am mostly looking for options in the ASUS TUF brand. Depending on my budget limit my options range looks like this.

Intel CPUs
Core i5 11400h 11 gen
Core i5 12500h 12 gen
Core i7 13620h 13 gen
Core i7 12700h 12 gen

Ryzen CPUs
Ryzen 7 7453hs (the most common economic option)
Ryzen 7 7735hs
Ryzen 7 4800h
Ryzen 5 7535h

GPU

Rtx 2050
Rtx 3050
Rtx 4050
Rtx 4060
Raedon 7600s 8gb

Most of these models come with 16/512 memory and that seems enough to me unless I'm wrong. The issue is I'm not sure just how much performance and which combo will meet my own needs so I hope for guidance in that regard. I am mostly looking for casual aaa gaming, mostly non competitive single player .

IMHO: Gaming or laptop, choose one.

It's for work mostly. I just plan to game on the side instead of shelling money for a dedicated machine

I see.
Keep it as cool as you can when gaming. And regularly clean the dust out of the fan ducts. My brother almost killed his laptop from overheating due to a blocked fan duct.

Opinion on which build feels better to you given the options

I haven't been in the arena for long to give you advice but on desktop you don't need an i7 for gaming.

I guess the 12500 with rtx4060 is a good combo.

There's lots of videos on YouTube where you can see the performance of different combinations.

They are very useful and give you a good idea of what you can expect from each combination.

Basically how you choose is first you choose the GPU. And then you choose the lowest CPU that does not bottleneck it. Anything above that is overspending.

I'd go with any Ryzen 7, Intel these days is just subpar. If you're not planning to use it primarily for gaming, get a 2050, frankly. It does the trick just fine, I have a friend that still uses it and it handles modern games just fine.
I'd also recommend getting a cooling pad. Gaming laptops are planned obsolescence - they overheat a lot, a cooling pad helps.

If you're going for a gaming build, then sure. But since OP said it's for work, then he should pick a CPU first and a more budget yet good enough GPU, unless he's rendering a lot of shit in 3D.

Purely hypothetical example:
You go on YouTube and see that rtx4060 with 11400 CPU has 30fps in GTA. And that the same GPU with the 12500 has 45fps. But the same GPU with the 13620 CPU has 50fp. The extra 5fps really isn't worth the price so you go with the 12500.

Again this is all hypothetical I just want to give you an idea of how you should go about choosing a combo.

I think if someone wants to do  any gaming they should start with the GPU. Otherwise he's gonna curse himself every time that frame rate drops.

Avoid intel 13th and 14th gen at all cost, they are a ticking time bombs and will murder your laptop after few years. Better pick Ryzen 7th gen or intel 12th gen. Gpu should be rtx 3060/4060/7600 at least if you want to play something new, 4060 is the best of the bunch, 3050/2050 are completely shit and won't reach 60fps in most new games unless they are old ass ports.

For work purposes, I'd take the 12700. But I don't follow laptops at all so idk.

The 12500 only comes with rtx 3050 in this brand. 4060 comes with ryzen 7 or i7 and both seem a bit too expensive.

I do intent to use it for playing present and future aaa titles. Just none of that twitch microseconds response sheeeiii. But I have no idea how much is needed. I used to own a nvidia 740M back in the days and it could only play PS3 era games. AC4 black flag with 10 fps lol. I don't want to end up that way again.

Ryzen 7 with 2050 seems like a good middle ground but then I can get the same thing with 3050 for $50 more.

So what you're saying is that even with a high end GPU one can get low fps if cpu is sub-par.

Damn right.

I have desktop i7 12700k and it's a beast when overclocked to 5ghz on all pcores and 4ghz on ecores. Shame that i don't have AVX-512 enabled so my rpcs3 performance would be better but it's leagues above my old i7 7700k.

Looking at the current state of gayming even with 4060 you won't be able to play everything at 60fps just look at Black King Wukang you need rtx 4080 to reach 60fps/1080p lmao

Both of the variants of 12700h here come with rtx 3050. I'll look into what other brands offer

This sucks, 3050 is never worth the money even mediocre 7600 is leagues above it and 4060/3060 with that cpu would be the best bang for your bucks.

MH Wilds requires frame gen to be enabled to run at 60fps but we will see if it's true with the demo that will be released soon on PC but ps5 demo perf is worrying
Brave 2024 10 29 17 50 12
Brave 2024 10 29 17 48 35

The 7600 comes with a ryzen 7 7435hs

Is 60 fps even needed? Doesn't PS5 run at 30fps max

You always want 60fps especially in fast action games it's just way more pleasant to play. PS5 run at fake 60fps aka Frame gen that uses 30fps and doubles it artificially to 60fps but it introduces artifacts and additional input delay. Chinks just couldn't bother to optimize their shitty game.

Laptop GPUs can be wildly different from desktop variants, hence why I don't want to speculate.

Are there a single laptop with RX 6700 XT? It should be better than 7600 and on par with RTX 4060 and at least you will avoid intel 13th/14th gen cpus.

In recent times they caught up to the desktop GPUs and they are not that far behind. Ofc pc will still overclock better so performance and temperatures will be better but it's not like desktop rtx 4060 will be 50% faster than laptop 4060

There are a few. All out if my league

I would avoid 11th gen cause it's very hot, and anyway all laptops now are low quality made to break. They deliberately save on cooling components, thermal interfaces, you may look at CPU or GPU temperatures and it seems relatively normal while your VRM zone is melting.
If you're home rotter, just build a PC.

Yes definitely.
But after a certain point increasing the CPU has little effect on fps.

Asus ROG Zephyrus G16 (intel core ultra 9)
lmao ultra cpus are total dogshit with insane watt usage for marginal perf gain, and OP is on a budget he can't spend 3k usd on a laptop

If you want a good laptop for work or college, get a thinkpad.
"gaming" laptops are a literal meme.
