You don't need a gym to work out. All you need is to have a pull-up and dip bar, any area to do pushups, lightly jog in the street, and do some stretching to avoid injury.
He'd be way worse off with a shitty diet and no exercise. At least now he can get a haircut and SEAmax.

Most "gym is useless" is cope from people who tried it for a couple months and quit after not seeing immediate results. You have to have low bf% to see even a tiny bit of muscle-building progress in the mirror in 8-12 weeks, and the vast majority of people starting out have high bf%.
 
Just go low bf % to see if you have potential. Makes bones stuck out if you have any.

Low bf% has actual muscle-building benefits, too. You have a better T to E ratio and more insulin sensitivity. You'll get more muscle and less fat to go with it. 10-15% body fat is largely considered the ideal range for getting jacked.

This, if you have a smaller frame than half the foids at the gym then you're in the wrong place. This happens a lot to ricecels and currycels.

Just be grateful that most normies have absolutely no clue how to gym. Athletic Chads are generally part of some type of sport and have a coach who does all the thinking for them, as well as good genetics. Normies don't have good enough genetics to warrant a real coach's time, so they have to choose between hiring a (probably out-of-shape herself) PT who just wants to suck their wallets dry, and putting their own meager brains into the complicated-in-theory-but-straightforward-in-practice art of body recomposition.
