Gillette lost 8 billion in market value in the aftermath JFL. Why did they try to appeal to people who can’t even shave? That 1989 commercial is so iconic though. It epitomizes the optimism of post-Cold War America and the upcoming 90s. The 2019 commercial just shows how depressing America is right now.

It really looks like they destroyed the "healthy masculinity" they supposedly advocate for out of hatred for men and only allow to define the concept of masculinity through an abusive lense the two videos show such a difference in attitude, and it can can be applied to broader soyciety imo. Back then when you were a "good man" you were just that first and foremost, today being a "good man" rather means "not being like those other men out there". Just look at an average roastie discussion on the internet to notice this.
