Getting a cat or dog to cope?

I have often considered getting one of the two. Cat would be more low maintenance but might sooth my loneliness and they can be really cool. Dog is more high maintanance but a friend for life and they will actually protect you to death. Their love is better than of most girls i suppose.

Cats are cheaper and low maintanance but also more independent.

Dogs are more expensive but also more fun and vivid.

What do you think?

Dog can be your best friends, i have one and he is indeed my best friend, i have him since 2009, and he is as loyal as one dog can get.

Cats are beautiful, and provide a nice company in your house, but you cant go with it everywhere...

Depends on breed. I have a Husky and she needs at least 2 hours outside a day, otherwise she gets depressed.

Dogs are far higher maintenance. You gotta take them out for walks and grab their fresh warm shit. Plus I can't stand walking around my neighborhood and seeing people. If I do go outside its usually in a regional park away from everyone. Plus dogs smell.

Everything is straightforward with dogs. If you are nice to them, they will like you and show it every time they see you.

I personally prefer cats and they’re great company, but the disadvantage is that you can really go out with them, and they tend to hate car rides - I like going on solo road trips, and a dog would be a great companion for that. What I don’t like about dogs is they’re loud and smelly; I also only like a few dog breeds (basenji, shiba inu, husky — the wolf-like relatively independent type). I really hate Rottweilers, Boxers, and pit bulls

My issue with cats is that I live in a nordic country so it's cold and I would feel bad for the poor animal if it were to sit inside with me all winters. Also more difficult if you are not on the countryside

I guess it's easier to train dogs. Maybe because of this you can make a dog more comfortable with car rides over time, while cats will just be mad at you because they are kings and queens.

As a dog owner, my dog is 13 years old and is a pain in the ass. I had to take it for a walk 9490 times, and I only take it outside 2 times, some dogs have to go outside 4 times a day. Even when it's fucking cold outside, in winter, in the summer heat, you wake up, you have to take it for a walk otherwise he'll pee and shit everywhere.

And even if they're animals they can also show you great disrespect.

They won't protect you either, excepted if you train the dog to attack, which means he will not be very happy and will potentially bite you.

And guess who will have to clean its vomit at 3AM because the dog has decided to eat a shit during the walk ? You.

I just regret my decision to have a dog. He makes me crazy, mourning all day-long just because I'm not giving it 100% of my lifetime.

You're wrong about maintenance too, because I pay 10€/month for his dog food. They only need food and water, and worming pills every 3 monhs (5€ for one pill). What's expensive is medical issues but you can pay an humble health insurance for that.

When he'll die I'll also have to transport his dead corpse to the veterinarian who will destroy the corpse (it's 200€).

You also forget the shitload of fur dogs lose in your house or in your car.

Foids are psychopaths so it makes sense that they y'know. I'd only want a big dog if it would hurt people for me though.

That is pure garbage, I have dows pitbulls and they live all day in the yard that I have, I don't even take them out for a walk or clean their shit or take them to the vet, I only dedicate myself to giving them food and nothing else (they get water from a container where the water from the air conditioners falls), we never let them enter the house, also I do not give them specialized food, we usually give them the remains that we leave from our food, perhaps with a little rice. Sure, I live in a rural area and my yard is fucking big, but raising a dog is super easy.

Having a large yard area is actually an obligation to avoid most of the problem I mentionned. I have underestimated the yard size required and the yard location. I don't know if the OP has a yard or not, but without a very large yard I can't advise him to purchase a dog because it would be hell on Earth.
