I have decided that I might as well throw in more money to get a gaming laptop with rtx 4060 and ditch the cheaper 3050/4050 options. For some degree of longetivity with modern games. But most 4060 are super expensive and only a few fit my budget. These are-

Asus tuf ryzen 7 7435hs , 250 nits screen, 16/512 gb, 90whr battery,
Around $1180

Lenovo loq ryzen 7 7435hs, 300 nits screen, 24/512gb,
Around $1090

Lenovo loq core i5 12540s, 350 nits screen, 16/512gb
Around $1019 (this one comes with 3 month game pass, whatever that is supposed to mean)

I mostly need suggestion on the cpu front. Which one is good for gaming and if the cheaper one will work as well as others.

Also I wanna understand if 3050 can play last 10-15 years games like rdr2, god of war, MGS5 as good as 4060.

I assume the Ryzen is better because it's much newer

TechPowerUp says 4060M is like full 2060, and 3050M is like full 1650. That's a big difference, at least double the performance. I don't know how well 3050M would hold up.

Do you travel a lot ? If no, then id highly recommend getting a PC instead

Why the fuck do you need 4060 i dont understand why spend so much on pcs i regret buying 3060ti so much because i just dont play modern slop games its complete waste of time compared to older games before 2016 and so om

Based my experience as a laptopcel for more than 10 years, sooner or later you will have heating problems with it. Heat is the worst problem for laptops, and one way to deal with it is to disable the CPU boost. There will be a small performance decrease, but a noticeable improvement in temperature.

Ryzen CPUs typically have a higher base frequency. 7 7435hs has 3.1GHz base and 4.5GHZ with boost. I could not find a CPU called i5 12540s, but the closest result was i5-12450H, with a base 2.0GHZ and 4.4GHz with boost. Based on this alone, I recommend Ryzen instead of Intel.

Also, I don't recommend RTX 3050 in present day unless it is significantly cheaper. RTX 3060/4050 are good, fairly similar strong choices. RTX 4060 is even better.

Honestly Lenovos for gaming are total niggershit. This was 11 years ago all the way up to mid-2017, but I went through THREE separate Lenovo gaming laptops that all had defects, and also all three of them had wireless connectivity issues. They all overheated extremely badly too. The final one lasted three years, and after the first year I could barely use it due to how badly it overheated. I only got it because it had a high rating in PC Gamer (probably a paid rating to begin with tbh).

I heard Lenovos still have cooling issues and problems with their wireless cards. Get the ASUS. Lenovos are good for productivity though, as I have a 5 year old Lenovo laptop for productivity/school/work and it does the job fine and effortlessly. It has wireless issues though and I ended up getting a USB -> Ethernet dongle that fixed it.

True. Gaming laptops for the most part are cheeks for long term gaming. Only if you are a nomad or if you travel you should get a gaming laptop.

My laptop is a 500$ son of a bitch that can do callof duty BO6 but not ghost recon breackpoint. Runs fallout 4 decently, and BF4. Hopfully STALKER ANOMALY.

why would you choose a laptop over a pc?

any decent gaming laptop needs a 300lb charging brick you need to haul around and gets really really hot, and its harder to upgrade

So if I understand this correctly, both of those can run all the old and new games but the difference would be in graphic detail settings and fps?

In what way are modern games bad.

Yes. It's 12450h. I've heard elsewhere it's better due to having integrated graphics which ryzen 7435 doesn't. But my question is, does the difference you've mentioned really have that much of an effect on performance. Because I'm already kinda stretching my budget for the i5 because it's the cheapest 4060 on Amazon rn (discounting gigabyte models which I've not looked into). initially I was going to settle for 3050

I dont even know the model of the laptop. All I know is it deos shit that I didnt expect it to do. Other wise Id rock out the OLED steam deck.

I have a laptop with the Ryzen 5 5600H, base frequency 3.3GHz. I've had the turbo boost disabled for the past like 2 years and I've not noticed a significant decrease in performance.

However, if it comes down to i5 with 4060 vs Ryzen with 3050, definitely get the one with 4060. 4060 blows 3050 out of the water and it's in a completely different league.

If you get the 3050, I wouldn't worry at all about disabling the CPU boost. 3050 would be bottlenecking anyway both that i5 and the Ryzen.

So if I run the core i5 on boost it should do the trick right? I was considering the ryzen with 4060 but it's kinda breaching my budget threshold. Before I was gonna get an even cheaper 3050 but now that I've decided to increase budget for 4060 I want to know if the extra squeeze for cpu in ryzen is worth the dough

that one is most likely the best from three, I5 is cheaper but also few % slower, gamepass doesn't mean shit i can send you link where you can buy shared acc for 6-12 months for a few bucks

3050 is much weaker than 4060, at least 50% slower, nobody should be buying that piece of shit

Just look at this framerate of RTX 3050:

I was thinking of getting me one of those Laptop coolers. Like an iets 600. Seems to do the job.

I paid 828.56 US dollars back in 2022 for the catastrophe, i.e a 3050 laptop

Yes, Intel tends to run cooler than AMD anyway. You can't go wrong with the i5 and 4060. It's going to be a mogger gaming laptop :feelsokman:

Yes, get a laptop cooler as well :feelsokman:

Yes, this is a good strategy that people don't talk about enough.

If you are having trouble with performance, lower resolution and cap frame rate, this is what I do :feelshmm:

Although 30fps is a bit low. I often cap games to 45-50 fps and it's still a good experience, but with better performance and lower temperatures.

I will play in lowest setting than pay sexhavers for upgrades

I wouldn't buy a Lenovo for gaming. If I'm paying top dollar for a laptop I would get a Dell, Asus, Sony or other reputable brands.

Also if you are going to use a laptop for gaming one of the most important things is heat. You should look for benchmarks online and see which one runs cooler.

You were worrying about the 4060 getting obselete as newer games come out, but I assure you the mechanical wear from heat will kill it faster than technological advancement.

Lenovo is not a reputable brand?

Laptop gpu are different from desktop just buy a rtx 4070 and do research on the laptop model so it does not have flaws like bad cooling
