Games are not made for kids anymore. Even more light-hearted cartoonish games like Nintendo or Crash Bandicoot aren't being designed for children. This is because, statistically, it's mainly adults who play these games.
Kids are playing Minecraft and Fortnite. They're not playing Mario. You'd think this would lead to these games becoming edgier like we saw during the mid and late 2000s. For example, Nintendo removed all cases of fat people being insulted in their new Paper Mario remake, as well as Bowser's "sexist" jokes. In the Pikmin ports on switch, any references to Olimar being forced to eat bugs have been removed.
