I see so many posts online saying "2016 was the last good year" or "2016 was peak everything" probably from very young zoomers who were around 11 at the time, so it was the last year of their childhood and were entering puberty. So they remember it with nostalgia goggles kinda like 80s and 90s nostalfags (I love this word ) never shut up about how they had the best stuff.
Meanwhile I was 16/17 at the time so had a different perspective and I remember how people commented 2016 being such a bad year. Terrorist attacks were common (once a month, maybe more), Brexit happened which made a lot of people angry and thanks to the US election it was the year the whole culture wars and polarization of society started. If you knew about what has happening in the real world 2016 felt like a very polarizing year. I remember the images of antifa and proud boys beating each other up in rallies, breaking shit up and beating people in the head with bike locks just because they disagreed with them politically. And before MAGAcels come tell me it was cool because Trump won this isn't my point.
I feel like in 2015 the world wasn't perfect (terrorism, war in Syria and Eastern Ukraine, refugee crisis, etc.) but people were much more chill and happy in general, while in just one year I seemed like everyone became so hateful.
Anyways some articles from 2016 calling it the worse year:

Why do so many people say 2016 was such a bad year?
Answer (1 of 12): A few thoughts from an American perspective. 1. Cops killing blacks. 2. Blacks retaliating killing cops. 3. The widening of the divides between US political parties and those who choose their party over common sense solutions to benefit all Americans. 4. Syrian refugee crisis. ...
