I've been watching a lot of paleoanthropology videos on youtube and monkey videos lately. Fascinating.
These monkeys are how our ancestors were like millions of years ago. We have a common ancestor and the difference is that those monkeys branched off and didn't evolve. Whereas we branched off from that common ancestor and evolved. Mainly because of the shrinking jungle habitat and the need to go into the grasslands. The dumber ones or shorter ones got eaten by big cats with gigantic fangs. Brutal....
Once the big cats were no longer a big threat because upright apes could now throw stones, use tools, and work cooperatively, the new big threat was now other apes. And competing with other apes is much harder and drove evolution into overdrive mode.
