You are close to being on the right track. Freud was a Jew but I do not believe he was a snake-oil salesmen. Freud genuinely believed what he was doing was for the better good of mankind. What Freud failed to realize was that his mind was fundamentally different than most of his patients, particularly those of non-Jewish ethnic origins.
