Going off the 2019 budget since Covid’s unemployment benefits wrecked 2020s, only 8 percent of the federal budget is to welfare for everyone while 25% goes to Medicaid and Medicare which covers a minority of Americans. Social security is also 23% of the budget and that goes to boomers. Expanding healthcare to everyone would definitely cost more than 25% of the budget which is already 3x what we spend on general welfare programs. Also, 40-45% of Americans don’t pay income tax so a lot more people than you would typically expect get some sort of low income credit.
