i hate the first trope. the 2nd trope is not inherently good or bad imo since it totally falls on the author the execute the revenge backstory well (berserk vs redo of healer)

In a sense they're more or less the same trope of revenge. One is like a "status" revenge, while the other may do harm onto another. I also love underdogs who beat impossible odds, something you can't quite do IRL.
But yeah, it's hard to find good revenge stories and they usually pussy out like in Redo of healer. Berserk miura died before culminating his marvelous work of art, sadly. Still you can more or less guess how it was going to end, and it didn't bore well for Griffith
