I bought the top consumer audio technica headphone (used obviously) for more than half off and it sounded no different than the entry $80 model from them I got a year ago at my local electronics.

Only difference was that it fits my head better, sound quality remained the same

Which model?
I used a couple different pairs though the years and I agree, tends to plateau. Currently using a pair of sennheiser hd650 500$ and compared to audio technica air 150$ I liked the airs sound stage and comfort better. The hd650 age better though and you can easily find and replace the ear pads, cable and head band. A must for me because my head is so oily.

Ath50xbt

My Beats by Dre I found dumpster diving had better audio than my current $400 headphones.

A Bluetooth version of the ath50, never liked the ath50 they crush your skull and are too muddy sounding. Frankly I like my hd650 where I notice they are particularly good is rock and metal. Also stay away from akg headphones they look great and are comfortable but the sound is really flat and unpleasant, like no low end.

It’s technically a hybrid wireless headphone, you can plug it in with a jack so I don’t have to use a dongle outside.

Paying top dollar for anything is incredibly stupid. People wander why they're poor, jfl.

I have some cheap ones. They are nice and very sturdy. Had them for some time.

Expensive you mean audiophile, yeah they were always a scam, audio equipment gets sold in multiples of the cost it does to make them.

but there are some good scams and bad scams, the problem is that you went with a mediocre model by audiotechnica, and a bluetooth one, should've just bought a shure shr440 a great closed back for it's price.

I bought the Sony WF-1000XM5 recently and the ANC is barely better than my Beats Fit Pro, even though the former are top-tier earbuds while the latter are mid-tier earbuds. The case battery drains quickly as well. At least I bought them when they were $130 off. I would've never bought them at their full price jfl.

It’s not a Bluetooth headphone, it’s a hybrid, it’s the same as the wired model except it has a wireless receiver and battery
