Ironically I don't think the woke crowd would mind if she was in love with another girl but just not a guy.

So hm. Maybe @BurntIvoryKingcel is right that she was kind of a "simp" for him XD

In the times long before that was even a term. Basically she just really liked him and that was the most important thing about her character. I can understand toning that down a bit now that she's a more fleshed-out character, but I really think they'll also be doing it to an even further degree to be "politically correct".
