Think about the world we live in. All its beauty, color, sound. All the mountains and the oceans, stars and galaxies, flora and fauna. The beauty and ugliness revealed to our conscious experience.
But what is this experience if not an ephemeral sham? The true experience of this universe, the one we had for billions of years is eternal darkness, the void. That is if the entity "we" could be defined to "experience" before its birth. Does experience imply existence? I see, therefore I am? I don't think this is true, because everything else exists too. So the experiences of the dead are as valid as the living.
But if the void is an experience in itself, then could we say that we existed for millenia and will continue to do so even after death. Because ultimately that's the way the rest of non-biological universe experiences itself, an endless stream of dark. This common experience is shared by everything in the universe. As if its one single entity.
In a way our live conscious thought is an anomaly. Our perception of the physical reality is an lie, or to use a better word, an illusion. Electromagnetic waves exist but there is no light, pressure waves are formed but there is no sound. And the ultimate truth and nature of this universe is a pitch black of non-experience.
