The field of hypergamy and its impact on civilization is a well-trodden and rich field, but I would like to add another perspective on that - the price vs value perspective.
Let's start with definitions:
Value - The value is composed of two factors: (1) relative abundance and (2) fundamental qualities.
The first factor is relative. It is defined by the relative abundance of something in relation to something else. The more abundant X is relative to Y the lower the value of X relative to Y, and visa versa.
The second is the fundamental and constant invariable that represents the inherent characteristics of something and incorporates its qualities (+) and flaws (-). Your value is how strong, good-looking, smart, etc you are.
What is more tricky is to understand the relative shares, or importance, of each part in the total definition of value. Namely, how many percents out of 100% is each factor?
Every value is a combination of the two factors and later I will propose a way to estimate the value of the “average” men.
Price - is merely information. It can be arbitrarily set by the governments or defined at the marketplace at the intersection of supply and demand, or as in the majority of cases, by the combination of the two. Unlike value, prices can fluctuate in response to changes in supply and demand or as a reaction to government intervention.

In fact, the glorious Warren Buffett made his billions on an intertemporal arbitrage between low price and high value… but it is for another post.
The Value of the Man
Let's understand first the fundamental value of the male and the female. Since value has two factors we should discuss them both and then decide what is the relative share of each factor.
Factor 1: Relative Abundance
What is the Male to Female ratio (known as sex ratio)? It is usually slightly above 1. Namely, there are slightly more men than women.
So, if the number of females is just slightly below the number of males then the value of a man is just a bit lower than the female value! WRONG!!!
Nature made us different and significantly lowered the value of the male in relation to the female. The fundamental value of men to women can perhaps be calculated as the ratio between the total number of sperm cells to the total number of egg cells in a given place/country. As you understand due to the abundance of sperm cells their number is just 10 millionth the price of an egg cell. Nature made the man WORTHLESS in relation to the female.
but we have another factor...
Factor 2: Fundamental Qualities
Here the male has the upper hand. Males have competed and improved themselves genetically through the brutal process of natural selection and increased their fundamental value by being stronger and smarter in relation to the female*.
Men learned and shaped their skills to provide and do complicated stuff which compensated immensely for the low-value nature has initially endowed them with.
A Composite Man's Value = (1-C)*Factor_1 +(C)*factor_2 (where C is 0 < C < 1 and named the Civilization factor)
What is the relative share of each factor (what is C)? Frankly, I don't know. But we can look at history to see that generally, the composite value of the male is roughly equal to the value of the female mainly because of the importance of Factor 2 (C is close to 1) - at least in a regulated sexual marketplace.
The Impact of Hypergamy on Price, Value, and the Civilization Factor - C
Accumulation of skills, self-improvement, and investments became possible when men realized that they and their descendants will be able to enjoy them and that it would attract women to them. When a man sees that his future effort can pay off he will be incentivized to compete, improve himself, save, invest, invent, and create because they know that they, or their descendants, will be able to enjoy the fruits of their toil. All these actions are immensely important and their sum defines what civilization is. If a man cannot secure the fruits of their effort there will be no civilization but rotting and degeneration. Exactly what we have today.
Mathematically, the closer the C to 1 the higher the importance of accumulated skills (factor 2) in mating and the lower importance of relative abundance (factor 1) and this the higher the level of civilization in the society. Namely, creative, hard-working males will find women or even several women so that the offsprings will be as good as they are.
In fact, civilization could rise ONLY AFTER the Sexual Marketplace has become regulated. Namely, regulation of the Sexual Marketplace and control of hypergamy is a PRECONDITION to civilization and not its consequence. At the same time, no civilization can exist with too high levels of hypergamy. Women promiscuity destroys civilization since men lose the incentive to do work hard to maintain the fruits of their toil - which in turn constitute what civilization is.
On the left side, hypergamy is restrained - this is civilization. On the right side, there is barbarism and degeneracy.
On the Left, almost every male has an incentive to work hard and increase his Factor 2 value because he knows that it will pay off and he will get a woman. As a result, men invest, save, create, and invent - civilization is flourishing.
On the right side is hypergamy unchecked. Men understand that they will not get a woman so they have no incentive to work, study and invest - the factor 2 value is plummeting. Civilization is deteriorating: technological progress is slower, interest rates are low, consumerism, etc...
Hypergamy lowers the incentives to increase the fundamental male value (factor 2 component of value) and as a result, civilization is gradually being destroyed from inside.
To sum up… Being ugly is a crime against nature. But luckily we are not in nature, we are in civilization. And if we assume that we are in a civilization what should be important is not our looks but our ability to create, invent or simply be productive members of the society. If none of these holds then it is not a civilization. And to my understanding, the west is no longer a civilization.
What is happening now is civilization being destroyed and humanity is going back to primitivism.
