Chapter 1 The Invisible Student
My precollegiate days were filled with such a profound unhappiness. I was a shadow, simply a ghost, haunting the halls of my own inner life. The years that I spent alone were marked by such a dark sadness and deep despair that it all threatened to consume me. I was working dead-end jobs, and each one was more soul-crushing than the last. I dreamed of a way to escape the reality that I lived. So I went to college.
