PS2 = Largest game library + retrocompatibility
DreamCast = Most innovative
OG Xbox was the worst of this gen imho, never understood the hype around that console

Xbox games looked the best and most importantly, was the legend in console modding. As a console itself, Xbox was weak compared to its competitors with lack of game library. And Xbox Live started online monetization cancer.
In terms of power Xbox is best with GameCube coming in second. In terms of games it's up to preference. Personally GameCube is my favorite and the console I come back to most. However, I also have a soft spot for the PS2. It has plenty of great exclusive games too.

PS2 felt ahead of it's time compared to the others. Gamecube is great too but honestly I didn't care about Nintendo that much until the Wii.
PS2 mogs all despite being pretty weak in hardware. Gamecube is 2nd best. Dreamcast or Xbox who cares about that most of those games came out on PC too.
While it lacks the library of stuff like the Xbox and PS2, the Dreamcast has always felt more enjoyable to play even with the bulky controller.

If the dreamcast had develop a dvd player like ps2 did, it would have survived. I truly believe that ps2 big sales was due to the matrix coming out and you play it on dvd on ps2.
No, Sega was already nearing the end before the Dreamcast was even released. Their mess of consoles and "upgrades" through the 90s did too much damage. The GD-rom didn't help, though.

SpeedBusters is one of those CPU clock sensitive games from the Win98 era. Like Test Drive 3. a pain in the ass to get it running, you have to either have the right speed (Ghz) which is 2.0 Ghz in the case of SpeedBusters. or you are Bust.
So having the Sega Dreamcast version is a no BrainER!
Re-Volt and Speed Devils are still decent ports on the Dreamcast. it even rivals their PC counterpart.

Unironically the GBA would be the contender rivaling the PS2 in quality games.
It still can run a couple games in 1080p. Like in the case of Gran Turismo 4.
But then again, it is advisable to not do that. If you want to prolong it's lifespan.
I loved the original Xbox growing up. I think it has a charm to it that the Xbox one doesn't.

Maybe you should buy a video game emulator like from Powkiddy to try all of them depending on what emulator you buy
GT4 runs in 1080p but it's an unusual stretched version of it.
I like running PS2 games in 8k on emulator. The shitty textures are so clear, and does make some games look really good.
There is an HD Texture Pack somewhere for a shit ton of games that run the PCSX2 emulator.
They've had xbox live back then and a big hard drive, in those times.
You could store music on it and play it in some games, afaik.

I would have bought the Dreamcast back then, if I could have afforded it.
I was 13 years old back when it was still being sold.
99€ for the console, with a controller and a game, afaik. By that time it was already on its way out and I knew this.
A sad day for gamers when Sega finally quit for good.
But they've fucked it up with the Sega CD and 32X. They've lost the trust of the consumers.
The Saturn couldn't help the recover, especially because it's cost 100€ more and needed batteries to save states and memory expansion cards.
Also, it lacked good games. Sony was simply stomping everyone back then.

And you are right. It was hyped extremely back then. I remember it well.
But the Dreamcast was a lot less expensive and the GD-Roms had around 1 Gb of space.
Also, PS2 games mostly still came on CD-Roms.
The DVD functions was mostly for movies.
But I have to give it to them, DVDs are being sold to this day.
I wish Microsoft had succeeded with their HD DVDs though. I have read that the image quality on them was superior to Bluerays.

Ps2 was so much fun when i didnt have the modern gaming systems at the time so many good games on the console it had a nice reto syle to it too
