I have no idea. I think it's indoctrination. There are tons of incentives, so many that men will marry then go off to war. It may make them better soldiers if they have something to fight for. The military is also a good way to raise your social standing. They don't want cannon fodder, they want disciplined people who come back and apply it in life. Cops, politicians and other such occupations get a boost from public opinion and also it makes them better at their jobs I believe.
