Preferences don't make you volcel no. Standards however can very much do so. A preference is just a preference. It doesnt mean you won't accept things that dont fit entirely within your preferences. Standards however if imposed are different. They're self restrictive and a choice.
When people say that "beauty is subjective", what they actually mean is that preference is subjective. Beauty itself and attractive features are certainly objective for the most part. You have to pass the objective window to be considered for the subjective one most of the time. In that sense, a subjective preference would be preferring a gothic chads fashion sense to a bodybuilder chads. Both still pass the objective. But one may have a subjective edge.
