I have one, they definetely help with loneliness yeah, but they too take lot of your time, responsibilities, and veterinaries at least in my shithole country are expensive as fuck. If you're extrovert walking with them will help you socialize with other dog owners, but if introvert it will be a hassle almost every time you turn a corner.

So worth that you will cry like a bitch like I did when the first one I had died with 10 years, they end up feeling like family, that's not exageration as they will expend all time they have with you. And no problem if you don't want to make friends, as long as you take it out for walks a lot you will make it happy. If you can maximize its socialization when a pup even better, it gives them security, mine didn't expend a lot of time with bigger dogs and later he barked a lot at them because of it, which was really annoying.

Had that idea too at first, sounds good, doesn't work. They tend to get overprotective over each other in presence of other dogs like I saw with every neighbour who had 2+. Plus most people who have puppies end up having to sell them if they are pedigree, or give them to for adoption if they aren't because maintenance gets too high. If you're worried about if other dogs will not feel the same later, I can assure you that they all behave mostly the same, my second one feels almost like a clone of the first one.
The responsibility can be a nitemare. It suks LDARing when dog needs to go outside in cold or rain to pee. Always cleaning hair balls/grooming, and long distance travel can be impossible. Dog food/treats not cheap. Vet bills never end. Plus, there’s always sum nosy neighbor calling Dog Control.
Visiting pet stores - pet shows or zoos can fill the need. If you don’t travel much and live on land far away from ppl, then get two dogs.

Yes a dog helps, no matter how shitty my day is my dogs help me feel at least a little bit better. Don't be neglectful and you will bring joy to each other's life. Also if you spend a lot of time outside get another so they can keep each other company or you will mentally torture your dog, but like Steiner said, dogs become overprotective of one another when in the same pack so they might attack together a lone dog if that dog gets aggressive.

Then go ahead dude 100% recommended. But you have to be the leader of the pack, as cringy as it may sound. Watch cesar millan, the dog whisperer and you can have a good idea on how to educate them. They require time and work to be healthy and happy, so if you have the time it's a great investment for your well being.
Depending on your personal daily activity there are breeds more or less fit for your lifestyle, so check that out aswell.

It's extremely rare for your dogs to attack you if they view you as the alpha of the pack. It's just not happening unless he has the rabies or something, the only dogs who attack its owners are dogs who think of themselves about their owners OR they have been physically attacked so much that they might lash out to defend themselves (fight or fly response gets triggered, basically)
If that scares you, just get docile breeds and defo don't get potentially dangerous breeds like pitbulls or staffords.

Don't worry homie I have dogs who are submissive to me because I've established I'm above them, even dogs that are considered aggressive.
If you want some general tips on how to let your dogs know who is boss:
* Hand feed them, this is the best tip I can give if they want their dogs to know who is the boss. By handfeeding him and controlling when he eats you are saying: "you eat whenever I want". You don't always have to hand feed them, just when they are young so they learn who is making them survive, later you can just let them see you pouring the food.
* Control where they can stay. Don't let them sleep on your bed, it's your bed and only you have the privilege of sleeping on it. By accesing a zone and not allowing them the access, you are again establishing dominance and putting yourself over them.
* Teach them tricks like shake, play dead, etc. so they develop a pleasing actitude towards you. When you teach, use rewards like they are in a casino... reward them always the first 2-3 times they obey, then do it every other time, then do it every 3 times... then mix it up, so they never know when a reward is coming and they always obey.
I don't recommend hitting your dogs btw, you don't want them to trigger a fight response when they associate you coming to them as in "pain is coming, I must fight".
