"The west" was the boogeyman for the left for the longest time. It was the "toxic" of the past - anything you didn't like, describe it as a "western" concept and academia immediately understood that it was vile and uncouth, versus the racist and patronizing halo they saw around the noble savages of the east. But in the end, "the west" became globalist disney monoculture and the left has adopted it completely (though they wouldn't call it that, too many years of negative branding of "the west"). They won't be happy now until everywhere is a DMV, until every nomadic tribe is urbanized and making powerpoints about nothing, until every honor culture has lawyers to fight for the states right to inject kids with puberty blockers. "The west" means the monoculture, and so Australia is obviously a part of it, but so is the urban and stable parts of the middle east, east and south Asia, etc. The divide we're experiencing now is culture and identity versus globalism, and it will continue. By the end of 2020 you won't be able to tell Tokyo from LA from Berlin from Johannesburg from Istanbul. It'll all be the same shade of beige.
