There's more to it but long story short that's the gist of it. Balding is caused by DHT, which damages the hair follicles until they stop producing hair. But the sensitivity of the hair follicles to DHT is the most important factor, and it is highly variable (that's where the genes in the X chromosome come in) and it increases with age.
This is why men go bald as they age despite the fact that their testosterone (and so their DHT) drops after 30-35. This is why even low test soys can go bald, DHT sensitivity and time are the most important factors. The accumulated damage and the increase in sensitivity is what makes you bald.
This is also why women are almost immune to balding. They have 10-20 times less test, so about as much less DHT. Though old women can lose their hair. So your average foid never, ever thinks of herself as carrying norwood genetics. She filters men thinking it'll guarantee that her kids won't go bald.
