Except dogs will sometimes be timid around you or others when you beat them. I remember when my grandma was alive, whenever we would go visit her at her nursing home, this Labrador retriever that would be at the front desk would get aggressive and bark whenever he saw someone wearing a hat because his former owner, who frequently wore hats, abused him. So not even dogs will necessarily wanna go back to being abused.
